In this section you will find a
brief introduction about some of the most famous mines in Sardinia
and same other thing around mineral collection. The Sardinia
island was one on the most important mining area in Italy and probably some of the best
samples among Italian minerals came from here. It's enough to think to the famous
Phosgenite crystals found in the Monteponi mine. Now almsot all the mines in the area are
closed and there is a project on going to create a Geo-Mining park. The IGEA company
is working on almost all the old mines to restore the old dumps and closing all the
entrances. In our opinion it will be more and more difficult to find minerals
samples in the future and the only research possibilities will be in some restricted
areas.
