In this section you will find a
brief introduction about the most famous mines in the Iglesiente area of Sardinia.
The Sardinia island was one on the most important mining area in Italy and probably the
some of the best samples among Italian minerals came from here. It's enought to think to
the famous Phosgenite crystals found in the Monteponi mine. Now all the mines in the area
are closed and there is a project on going to do a Geo-Mining park. The IGEA company
is working on almost all the old mines to restore the old dumps and closing all the
entrances. In our opinion it will be more and more difficult to find minerals sample
in future and the only research possibilities will be in some restricted areas.
In the following pages you will find some news about the mines and most of all, photos about that show the current situation.
