Skardu, capital of Baltistan is at 2438 meters above sea level in the backdrop of the great peaks of the Karakoram mountain range. Baltistan is known as the "Tibet -e- Khurd" or little Tibet since its life style reflects that of the roof of the world and land of Lamas.
It borders on the Chinese province of Sinkiang and Indian occupied Kashmir. Baltistan is composed by five main valleys Shigar, Skardu, Khaplu, Rondu and Kharmang .Shigar Valley is one of the most famous from the mineralogical point of view and is the gateway to the great mountain peaks of the Karakorams, Gasherbrum peak & K-2.
Also here the minerals are characteristically from pegmatites, with the same paragenesis of Gilgit: Aquamarines, fantastic and very aesthetic topaz
The tourmalines from Skardu are among the best you can find in Pakistan.........
